“We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn..."

"I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life..."

“I left the woods for as good a reason as I went there. Perhaps it seemed to me that I had several more lives to live, and could not spare any more time for that one. It is remarkable how easily and insensibly we fall into a particular route, and make a beaten track for ourselves.”

"...if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."

Stumbly Sarah

Since the Sarah Palin buzz stopped ringing in everyone's ear, lots of people have started to wonder why the hell the campaign muzzled the Great Savior of the GOP. Sure, she's giving her canned stump speech, which, by the way, has been modified because of its many inaccuracies. Sure, she's shaking hands and kissing babies. But she hasn't done much of anything that hasn't been tightly choreographed.

ABC News "scored" the first Palin TV interview. Charles Gibson was tougher on her than I thought he might be, but wasn't able to knock her very far off her notes. I hate that I have to wonder if there were any guidelines set in order to get her first. And yet, I have to wonder.

I was amused today reading Campbell Brown's editorial on Palin. In it, she suggests the McCain campaign is being sexist by not allowing Palin to face reporters openly like all the other boys in this game. If she's as good as you say she is, Campbell Brown says, then let her play already. It's no secret that Campbell has had her own little battle with the McCain campaign, even though she's married to a gold card-carrying republican. I just like how she called them out like that, using some of their own language. It's fun stuff. We'll see if they take the bait.

My guess is, however, the bait will stay on the hook for a while after they gave Palin a shot with Katie Couric. My guess is after that performance, she won't be tangling with Campbell any time soon.

Watch for yourself.

Baby Book Bonanza

We took my big boy's car seats out of our vehicles this week. It was a proud moment for daddy, a sad moment for mommy. In addition to being completely mortified by what we found underneath of the car seat in my car, I was a bit overwhelmed at how quickly we got to this point.

We planned and hosted a fourth birthday party for My Little Sunshine last month. I think it's finally setting in that he's actually a boy now. There's no toddler left. He's a little man with a personality, opinions, and friends of his own. He's growing up so fast I just don't know how to deal with it some days.

I've always been a procrastinator. The main reason I think I ended up becoming a television news producer is that I have to have a deadline to get anything done. If a clock is not ticking down the seconds, I'm like a gerbil on an exercise wheel. Spinning. Spinning. Spinning. Controlled, but never really getting anywhere.

So imagine my surprise when I woke up this month and realized my baby had gone and grown up on me! That's what brings me back to my chronic procrastination. I have a baby book for Sunshine that has been empty since a co-worker gave it to me nearly five years ago. I have all sorts of scrapbooking supplies, stickers, borders. I even have a basic rundown of how I'm going to do it. The rundown has been set for years now. Sunshine was still pooping his pants when I did that. He still can't wipe his own butt, though, and that's my only saving grace. He's not completely grown until he can wipe himself, right?

So, my goal for the next few months is to catch up on the past four years of my boy's life. To finally record all the pertinent information in the "official" record, that stark white, very blank baby book. I need to set a deadline for myself. I used to get about eight hours to produce 27 minutes of television. By those guidelines, I should have until he's a teenager, right?

Awesomeness

I'm not feeling too hot right now, but I've been meaning to share a little piece of awesomeness a friend sent me. I'm not sure she wants credit for it, so I'll leave her unnamed, but she made my day with this one.

My Photo
Name: Student of Life
Location: South Cackalacki, United States

I'm a TV news producer turned stay-at-home mom. The transition from career woman to full-time mommy has been quite a journey, and I've learned a lot. I am a wife and the mother of two boys, My Little Sunshine and Dos. I write about being a wife and a mother, but I also write about being a woman trying to find a new place in the world. I have been known to go on rather verbose rants, usually about stupidity and ignorance--sometimes both. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up, but I do know that I want to be a student of life until my last breath.
